My wife and I went here for breakfast after camping for a night with a couple friends in Wagener. We came here because it was on our way to kayaking in Port Austin. When we got to the restaurant around 10 AM, there were several people waiting outside as the place is tiny and extremely busy. We put our name in and we were told that it would be a twenty minute wait. I am happy to report that it was in fact a twenty minute wait, which we were all pumped about because we were getting hangry (when a person is so hungry that he or she becomes irritable) and there was no where else to get breakfast near Port Austin that we knew about. We were seated at a table for four in the corner and our waitress came right over and took our orders. It took another twenty minutes for us to get our food, but the waitress was super friendly, attentive, she brought our food to us piping hot, and she made sure we always had a full cup of coffee. I had the Lighthouse Special, which is two eggs, bacon, sausage patties, and ham. I asked for raisin bread with my breakfast, a glass of OJ, and later I had a glass of milk. The food was fresh, delicious, and warm, and the OJ and milk were refreshingly cold. So the things keeping this place from getting five stars are the wait (both the wait for a table and the wait for the food), the bathroom (unisex) was tiny, and there were a couple bugs flying around the restaurant. Besides that, I think that we will come back and have breakfast here again when we are in the area.

It's a small and quaint cafe. The service was slow (we came during lunchtime which was understandable). The staff that was seen out of the kitchen were all young and friendly. They did manage to mix up our order with the table next to us. That being said, the cook gathered them together and yelled at them. It's a small cafe so we heard everything the cook said and it made us uncomfortable. We felt bad for the girls who were waiting us so we gave them extra tip.

Absolutely dreadful. Salad was limp and brown. Fried chicken was previously cooked and just reheated. Place was dirty and run down.

As the reviews indicate, a divey local place. Honestly, that is what attracted us! Breakfast was standard fare, homemade bread was very good, admittedly. Food was good, but not something I'll remember in my dreams. Only one waitress, so service was a bit slow. Had to wait for coffee, but no bother. Coffee was a bit weak, as is standard in cafes, or so I have found. Service was decent, and most importantly, she was very, very pleasant. I would return on our next trip here, but probably for lunch, to give it another try.

Excellent "all you can eat perch $11.99" special. Service was wonderful and as busy as it was the service was very attentive. GREAT.

8am Saturday. Little diner that is older looking and could use a good scrubbing, but we like dives when we travel. Three servers. Good service. Homefries are cubed potatoes with onion they were ok. Shredded were cooked more. Great fresh baked bread. Eggs great. Cinnamon french toast was good. The ham was excellent. Sausage patties were homemade, dense and large, good but too much for me. No wifi they use it to run credit cards. Lots of regulars. Get there early the place filled up right after we sat down. More of a community seating after fills up. Two families at one table. It is next to farmers market so you can eat and then walk over. If you park in front of restaurant you will have someone park really close to front and back bumper! So I recommend parking next door at welcome center in an actual spot.

Atmosphere: Run down, grimy carpet and walls that have been painted over 15 times. Blech. Service: Slow, probably due to being very busy. Location: Conveniently located in town by the farmer's market. Food: Delicious homemade bread, chili from scratch, fresh and locally picked fruit, excellent flavor and evenly spiced. All in all, this was a great dive. If we ever end up in Port Austin again, we will definitely go again.

Horrible place. I would like to give it no stars if I could. Where do I begin? We arrived at 11:00 and did not leave until 12:45! We were told the wait for the table was 10 minutes. 30 minutes later we were still waiting. We were next on the list when a filthy-dressed woman who worked there named Carol took a group of 9 who had been waiting for 10 minutes before taking my husband and I. The kitchen was the slowest I have ever experienced. There were at least 5 people in the kitchen and they were as slow as molasses. We waited for 30 minutes before the waitress told us they were out of wheat bread. BLT sat on the counter for a good 5 minutes until my husband's club sandwich was finished. Needless to say it was cold. It was served on a disgusting plate that was cracked and had a huge chip on the rim. The sandwich itself was smashed and unappealing looking. There were only 10-12 tables in here and at least 5 waitresses. This was the most inefficiently run place I've ever been to. There were so many people working here that they kept tripping and bumping into each other. Our food arrived 45 minutes after it was ordered. We visit Port Austin's often and will never go back to this dump. Oh, and there were flies everywhere. They were buzzing around a huge open jar of iced tea.

Food was great, a bit pricey for the area. The offer homemade bread with breakfast, awesome!! Food quality and coffee were great

We came up for a short vacation right after the Labor Day crowds had left. After my daughter decided to wake us up at an ungodly hour and the resulting attempts to get her back to sleep failed, we decided to Head over to the only place open in town for breakfast. The table of regulars were on one side and the man serving us was very pleasant and quick with the coffee that we desperately needed. He brought my daughter paper and a crayon and instantly told us not to worry about the Cheerios she was tossing on the ground. They don't have a huge menu but they have enough and what they have they do right. My husband got the big breakfast and I got the pancakes and bacon. All of the breakfast meats were thick cut and delicious and the sausage patty had a nice little kick to it. The pancakes were huge and the top one was a little doughy in the middle but they were an inch thick, so I understand and the three below were perfectly cooked! The star weirdly was the toast which was thick cut and homemade. It wasn't the best breakfast I've ever had but it was good quality food, and nice people who took sympathy on two tired parents and a cranky baby. That's good enough for me!

We saw this little restaurant in the middle of Port Austin and hoped it would be a nice little place. But then we went inside. We ordered lunch, and after a few minutes my wife got her "salad". It was just iceberg lettuce topped with a little bit of cheddar cheese that looked like it hadn't seen a refrigerator in a while. My wife asked for ranch dressing, and after waiting a few minutes, we were told that they were out of ranch. OK, she ordered Italian instead. We waited some more. During this time, one group walked out without eating, presumably because they had been waiting a long time for their food. I could hear the cook yelling from the back about the people that left. I heard him say "They can't do that! Who walked out?! Find out who that was!" After a few more minutes my wife got her "Italian dressing", which was a packet of nasty Fat Free "Italian", which is not what we wanted. My wife works as a cook, so she knows how restaurants work and was starting to get worried about eating here. We waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. It was a very small place, so the waitress obviously saw my wife just staring at her salad, not eating it, and should have known something was wrong. My wife contemplated walking out, but I was afraid of the cook coming out after us. Finally, after what seemed like forever, we got the waitress's attention, and my wife said she wanted to substitute something else for the salad, since after two attempts and a lot of time they still couldn't get it right. She ordered a cole slaw, and after a while the waitress brought it out. It was nasty pulverized bits of cabbage swimming in sauce and were definitely not made in house. My wife thought it was the same stuff for sale at the party store in town. I tried to convince myself it tasted OK, but couldn't get past it. After all this, my wife and I didn't feel comfortable eating there. What would the sandwiches we ordered look like? Would they even be safe to eat? We made up some excuse to get the heck out of there and told the waitress we had to leave. She told us to "hold on"... NO! We weren't waiting for the cook to come out and yell at us. We left enough money to cover the drink and a couple extra bucks, and we hightailed it out of there fast. I have NEVER walked out of a restaurant without getting my food like this before, but I didn't feel safe eating the food after all that. They clearly have no idea what they're doing. This really ruined part of our day on our vacation to the Thumb. I have been to Muskegon, the U.P., Traverse City, and now the thumb, and this place is my new winner for "worst restaurant in Michigan", even worse than that Big Boy I went to in Monroe. Ugh.

We ate here for breakfast this past weekend and loved it. I normally don't go to cafe/breakfast places for lunch so I can't speak for the lunch options. We visited in March but I can see how it can be packed and rushed in the summer. It is your typical small town diner. The bacon was thick cut, the eggs were cooked perfectly, and as the other reviews say, the bread is to die for. We actually bought a loaf to take home.

Great little place for breakfast. Staff is extremly friendly and is priced well.

This probably is the best breakfast joint in Port Austin but that doesn't say much for them. The waitress could not multitask and we didnt even receive a refill on coffee until we asked for one. The food is simple and overpriced for what you get.

I think it is important to note that you can't expect much out of restaurants in this area of Michigan. In comparison to others we went to I would say this one is on par and is average. I was vacationing with my family when we visited this restaurant. A few of us ordered breakfast and a few ordered lunch. My Mom enjoyed her soup commenting she thought it was homemade. My husband liked his hot turkey sandwich although the turkey was deli turkey. For those of us that had breakfast the toast was probably the best part . . . homemade bread was good. Our waitress was very pleasant. This place is really small and much like the other restaurants in this area the inside is dated and "tired" looking.

The wait for a table is notorious but well worth it. The blueberry pancakes second best I have ever had, sis-in-law's the best! Just yummy yummy yummy

Great grilled tuna sandwich. Ask for your fries crunchy though, because they're usually soggy. Normally always a wait since it's a VERY tiny cafe, though.

I LOVE this place. The breakfast potatoes are awesome. My friends and I eat here every time we come into town to visit family. The food actually tastes homemade, which is rare. Ask for the homemade bread when you order and you won't be sorry.
